Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus
Native Region: Southern Spain, Sicily, north Africa
Zone Range: 08-10
Preferred Climate: Temperate to Mediterranean
Harvest Date: Tuesday 14 August, 2012
Seed count: 50-60

Description:
Clustering corms give rise to typical gladiolus leaves, followed by stems of trumpet shaped deep magenta flowers. Very possibly the hardiest Gladiolus, this is an elegant and desirable species. Height 3 feet.

Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a coldframe. Gentle bottom heat can improve germination, 16-20°C (60-70°F). Grow on in any good well-drained but moist garden soil. Lift the corms in autumn in regions where winter temperatures are likely to drop below -15°C (5°F) for extended periods.
