 Malus yunnanensis |
Native Region: China- mountains of Yunnan, Sichuan Zone Range: 05-08 Preferred Climate: Cool to warm temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 22 November, 2009 Seed count: 15-20
Description: This species of Crab-apple is not often seen in western gardens, but noetheless this small tree definitely deserves greater attention. The white to faintly blushed pink blooms emerge with the foliage in spring, and are followed in summer and fall by attractively coloured fruit, which persist into the winter.
Cultivation: Sow seed in containers in a coldframe in autumn, or if sowing in spring, cold stratification is required for good germination. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
