Description: This is a low growing, mat-forming shrub that is dioecious - requiring separate male and female plants for berry production. The small leaves, to 1cm(1/2in) long are arranged along wiry tangled stems. The translucent, almost opalescent berries appear on the female plants in the fall.
Cultivation: Sow seed in containers in the fall or spring. Stratification is not needed for germination to be initiated. Plants should be grown on in gritty well-drained soil. These plants require shelter from excessive winter wet, wind and cold.
