Anthoxanthum odoratum |
Native Region: Europe, Asia Zone Range: 03-10 Preferred Climate: Temperate Harvest Date: Tuesday 23 August, 2005 Seed count: 25-30
Description: A relatively small grass, growing 30-40cm(12-16in) in height, this species of European bunchgrass will establish readily in areas of poor fertility at moderate to high elevations. The scent of this grass made it popular as bedding straw. Widely naturalized in North America.
Notes: Grasses, long ignored as ornamentals, are now enjoying a growing popularity, especially with the increase in dry gardening techniques.
Cultivation: Sow seed in containers in a coldframe in spring or autumn. Seed may be sown in situ, but there is always the problem with birds eating the seeds before they grow. Grow in sandy loamy, slightly acidic soil in full sun. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
