Native Region: China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan Zone Range: 06-09 Preferred Climate: Temperate Harvest Date: Tuesday 31 October, 2006 Seed count: 20-25
Description: This relative of the walnut is more slender an delicate in general appearance than its more robust cousin. Growing as tall as 15m(50ft) in the wild, these trees are usually shorter in cultivation. The alternate pinnate leaves produce a light dappled shade in the summer, and become yellow in the mid to late autumn. Height and spread 50 feet.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Seed should be sown in containers in the autumn and placed in a coldframe. Young trees should be sheltered from winter wind and will do best in a sheltered but sunny setting. Humus-rich moist soil with good drainage is a must.
