 Sorbus amurensis 'rufa' |
Native Region: Asia, Russia, Mongolia, China, Korea Zone Range: 05-08 Preferred Climate: temperate Harvest Date: Tuesday 28 October, 2008 Seed count: 20-25
Description:
Deciduous tree to 8 meters tall with pinnate leaves that bears white spring flowers followed by abundant orange fruit which persists through winter.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Seeds should be sown in containers in the autumn. The pots should be placed where they are reasonably sheltered from extreme cold, and not permitted to become either excessively dry, or kept soaking wet for long periods, so the shelter of a coldframe may be needed. Spring sowings may be done in small pots stored in the refrigerator for six to eight weeks, then moved to the shelter of a cool shady area outside to acclimatize. Grow in moderately-fertile, humusy, acidic to neutral well-drained soil in full sun.
