 Anthriscus sylvestris 'Raven's Wing' |
Native Region: Europe (including Great Britain), North Africa, Western Asia Zone Range: 05-09 Preferred Climate: Temperate woodland or meadow Harvest Date: Wednesday 14 June, 2006 Seed count: 30-40
Description: A biennial, or short lived perennial, this plant forms a rosette of deep purple, almost black, leaves in its first year, and by mid spring in the second year it explodes in a delicate haze of small white blooms above the dark leaves.
Notes: Perhaps not so favoured for cooking, this close relative of both chervil and parsley nonetheless makes a stunning addition to the herb garden, and it's excellent as an unusual gourmet garnish, and bound to draw attention in the garden.
Cultivation: Sow seed where it is to grow. Seed may be sprinkled lightly then firmed in. Seed should be sown in the autumn or the spring, in moderately fertile moist soil. Seed should not be stored for long periods, and is best ordered and sown from September to November. Grow in any well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Dead-head to prevent self-seeding. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
