Broadly conical deciduous tree with palmately 5-lobed green leaves to 6 inches across, which turn yellow/red/maroon in the fall. Young shoots often have corky wings. Inconspicuous flowers are followed by spiky round brown seeds which persist through winter. Height to 80 feet; spread 40 feet. Makes an excellent street tree, or specimen tree in a woodland garden.
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame in autumn. Grow in moderately-fertile, preferably acidic, moist, deep soil in full sun for best autumn colour. Tolerates alkaline soil.
