 Rhododendron lutescens |
Native Region: China Zone Range: 7-9 Preferred Climate: temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 18 January, 2009 Seed count: 400-500
Description: Erect bushy semi-evergreen shrub with lance-shaped leaves that are bronze when new, turning dull green with pale green beneath. Bears funnel-shaped primrose-yellow flowers in trusses of 3 to 6 flowers, spotted green on the throats. Height and spread to 15 feet.
Cultivation: Rhododendron seeds, small and delicate as they may appear, require scarification to break through the tough seed coat, as this allows moisture in to enter the seed and begin the germination process. See detailed instructions in the article "Starting Rhododendron Seeds" at www.plantexplorers.com/vandusen/articles. Grow in moist but well-drained, humusy acidic soil with added leaf mould in dappled shade. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
