VDBG Seed Collectors - Celebrating 40 years!

Seeds are collected in brown paper bags throughout the year by Sunday and Tuesday Seed Collectors.

Seeds from A........ to Z........ are entered into the 'Collection database' with their bed location, date of collection

and by whom.

The bags are stored open  to dry thoroughly, this is important to prevent any moulds forming.

Soft berries are treated differently; submerged in jars of sugar water agitated daily until the soft part deteriorates and falls away from the actual seed. Then copious amounts of water and sieving are used to reveal the actual seed, these then are left to dry.

All seeds are cleaned of any detritus, checked for quality control, the total weight entered into the Database

with all relevant information and stored in the fridge at  5C  temperature.

Seeds are packaged into individual plastic sealable bags along with an insert giving relevant information and showing an example of the mature plant.

Seeds and Cards are sold in the Gift Shop at VanDusen, The Bee Shop on Main Street also The Shipyard Area in North Vancouver

The Seed Collection and consequent sales around the world help promote The Botanical Garden, Seed Diversity and World Biodiversity.
