Upright deciduous tree with dark blue-green pinnate leaves which turn orange-red in autumn. White flowers appear in spring, followed by bright red, round berries. Height 25 feet; spread 15 feet.
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Seeds should be sown in containers in the autumn. The pots should be placed where they are reasonably sheltered from extreme cold, and not permitted to become either excessively dry, or kept soaking wet for long periods, so the shelter of a cold frame may be needed. Spring sowings may be done in small pots stored in the refrigerator for six to eight weeks, then moved to the shelter of a cool shady area outside to acclimatize. Grow in moderately-fertile, humusy, acidic to neutral well-drained soil in full sun.
