 Liatris spicata |
Native Region: Eastern and Southern United States Zone Range: 04-09 Preferred Climate: Suited to a wide range of conditions Harvest Date: Sunday 16 October, 2022 Seed count: 30-40
Description:
The tufts of this perennial's grass-like leaves give rise to dense spikes of mauve to lavender coloured flowers in the early summer. Foliage turns scarlet in autumn. Height 5 feet; spread 2 feet.
Notes: An unusual trait for Liatris is that the buds open from the top down, quite the opposite of most plants.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame in spring. Grow in reliably moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun.
