 Primula 'VanDusen Types' |
Native Region: garden origin Zone Range: 06-10 Preferred Climate: Cool to warm temperate Seed count: 50-60
Description:
This perennial rosette-forming candelabra primrose bears whorls of many salverform pastel flowers. Height/spread 24 inches.
Notes: These amazing perennials put on an an incredible show every spring, with blooms often lasting well into the summer, if the soil is kept sufficiently moist. The original plants consisted mostly of Primula bulleyana and P. beesiana grown at Ceperly Park in Vancouver. However, when seed was brought to VanDusen the resulting plants crossed freely with a number of additional species including P. pulverulenta, P. prolifera, P. japonica and others. The resulting mix of sizes and shapes in pastel shades are offered here collectively as the 'VanDusen Hybrids'. Please note that these plants are open pollinated and show considerable variation. Avoid the temptation to 'weed out' the smaller seedlings, as they often produce some of the more striking flower colours.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a coldframe in spring. Grow on in rich moist acidic loam in full sun to part shade.
