Nyssa sylvatica |
Native Region: eastern North America Zone Range: 5-9 Preferred Climate: temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 10 November, 2019 Seed count: 5-7
Description:
This broadly conical, deciduous tree bears ovate to obovate dark green leaves that turn bright orange and red in autumn. Small, inconspicuous green flowers appear in clusters in early summer, and are followed by small ovoid blue fruits about 1/2 inch long. Height to 70 feet; spread 30 feet.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in a seedbed in autumn. Grow on in fertile, moist but well-drained neutral to acidic soil in sun or part shade. Plant as small specimens where they will ultimately grow, as they are difficult to transplant successfully.
