Paeonia obovata
Paeonia obovata
Native Region: China
Zone Range: 05-08
Preferred Climate: temperate
Harvest Date: Tuesday 15 October, 2019
Seed count: 5-7

Description:
Herbaceous perennial with large green leaves, pale gray-green and slightly hairy beneath. Produces single, cup-shaped white to purplish red flowers, with yellow anthers. Height/spread 24-28 inches.

Notes:
Paeonia seed can develop a deep dormancy if allowed to dry. The Seed Collectors store their Paeonia seeds in cold moist peat to reduce the occurrence of deep dormancy. Spring sowings may be made in containers and stored in the refrigerator for two months, then moved to a sheltered position to develop the leafy shoot. Protect from heavy frost the first winter, but avoid wrapping the plant as this can promote mold.

Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in fall in containers in a cold frame. Within 6 weeks a root should develop, followed by a leafy shoot in spring. Grow on in well-drained fertile soil in a location sheltered from wind in full sun or part shade.

Harvest Date: Tuesday 15 October, 2019
