Description:
This deciduous perennial has stalkless, diamond-shaped dark green leaves with 5 sunken veins. In spring, bears pure white fragrant flowers with whorls of reflexed outer sepals and 3 inner petals. Suits a moist, shady border or woodland garden. Height to 20 inches; spread 8 inches.
Notes: Seeds pretreated with a germination enhancer, & packed in peat.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow this stratified seed as soon as possible in well-draining medium in containers in a shaded cold frame. No fertilizer or lime. Keep moist and cool. Don't let seedlings freeze 1st year. Don't disturb for 2 years before transplanting out while dormant. Leaves will not typically appear till the second spring and plants may take 4-7 years to flower. Grow in moist but well-drained, humusy acidic soil in part shade. Mulch annually in fall with leaf mold. Long-lived.
