Cardiocrinum giganteum

Giant Himalayan Lily

ca$ 3.95
Seed count: 30-40
Cardiocrinum giganteum
Cardiocrinum giganteum
Native Region: Himalayas, Northwest Burma, Southwest China
Zone Range: 05-09
Preferred Climate: Temperate woodland
Harvest Date: Sunday 29 October, 2023
Seed count: 30-40

Description:
Growing up to 3m (10ft) or more in height when flowering, these beautiful perennial plants produce tall spires with large scented blooms in early summer. The mid to dark green heart-shaped leaves form attractive hosta-like rosettes on immature plants.

Notes:
There are few plants that can make a dramatic impact like this astounding bulb from the Himalayas. While it can take seven years to grow to flowering size, it is well worth the time and effort. Seed grown plants can produce some of the tallest specimens. Although the main bulb dies after flowering, numerous ‘daughter’ bulbs will be produced that can reach flowering size in only 3-5 years.

Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. The large flat seeds should be spread on the surface of a good seed starting medium and sprinkled lightly with coarse sand. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame in autumn to early spring, or in a similar sheltered location where natural cool temperature fluctuations can induce germination. Bulbs should be grown in deep, humus-rich soil that has good drainage in part shade.

Harvest Date: Sunday 29 October, 2023
