Crataegus pinnatifida |
Native Region: Northern China to Korea Zone Range: 06-09 Preferred Climate: Cool to warm temperate Harvest Date: Monday 17 October, 2022 Seed count: 12-15
Description:
This small to medium sized tree covers itself in pink blooms in the spring, which at 1.5cm (3/4 of an inch) are large for the genus. The rich red berries persist well into the winter, providing a feast for the eyes, and later for the birds. Height and spread 25 feet.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seeds in a container in a cold frame and maintain light even moisture for up to 18 months. Seed is difficult to germinate. Gibberellic acid treatment will greatly enhance germination rates. Allow some exposure to the cold, but it's probably safest to offer protection from temperatures below -5°C (25°F). Grow on in any good garden soil in full sun. Offer some protection from drying winter winds or extreme dry conditions in the summer.
