Festuca idahoensis |
Native Region: western North America Zone Range: 5-9 Preferred Climate: temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 23 October, 2022 Seed count: 20-25
Description:
This densely-clumped perennial bunchgrass has short, rolling blue leaves and bears hairy buff-coloured spikelets above the foliage in summer. Height 12-24 inches. Drought-tolerant and deer resistant. Useful for foliage contrast in an alpine or rock garden.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a coldframe in spring or autumn. Seed may be sown in situ, but there is always the problem with birds eating the seeds before they grow. Grow in poor to moderately-fertile, dry, well-drained soil in full sun. Divide and replant every 2 or 3 years to maintain foliage colour.
