Selinum carvifolia |
Zone Range: 7-10 Preferred Climate: temperate Harvest Date: Tuesday 27 September, 2022 Seed count: 25-30
Description:
This clump-forming, tap-rooted perennial has finely-divided pinnate leaves on erect stems and bears tiny star-shaped white flowers in terminal umbels from mid-summer through fall. Height spread 3-1/2 feet. Suits a wilder garden and mixes well with ornamental grasses. Attracts bees and butterflies.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed immediately in containers in a cold frame in autumn and overwinter outdoors for spring germination. If not sowing in autumn, warm/cold stratification is suggested; mix seed with damp vermiculite and warm for 3 weeks, cold for 8 weeks, then sow the mixture. Prick out into deep containers as soon as possible to avoid taproot damage. Grow in moderately-fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or part shade.
