 Beesia calthifolia |
Native Region: China Zone Range: 6-8 Harvest Date: Sunday 27 August, 2017 Seed count: 15-20
Description:
This rare and elegant perennial has glossy green heart-shaped leaves on maroon petioles and bears small, starry white flowers on wiry stems well above the foliage in spring. Foliage aquires bronze tints in cooler temperates. Height 18 inches;spread 24 inches. An excellent ground cover for shady sites; associates well with ferns, epimediums, hostas and hellebores. B. calthifolia has more smaller and more numerous 'teeth' on its leaf margins than does B. deltophylla.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame as soon as available. Seed germinates easily within one year with and without stratification, although stratification does improve the rate of success. Grow in moist but well-drained soil in part- to full shade.
