 Eranthis hyemalis |
Native Region: Southern France to Bulgaria Zone Range: 04-08 Preferred Climate: Temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 08 May, 2022 Seed count: 40-50
Description:
This is a wonderful small flower for the late winter garden. The tuberous perennial produces bright yellow flowers above a ruff of bright green leaves in late winter. 2-3 inches high.
Notes: This seed can be a bit of a challenge to germinate, but is no more difficult than trying to revive the dried tubers so often sold at nurseries in the autumn. The problem for both tubers and seeds is that they need to be as fresh as possible to grow, or else they enter a state of dormancy so deep as to be almost impossible to draw them out of it.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, if you must delay sowing at all, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until you are able to plant it. This delicate seed is available only for a short while after it is collected in mid-spring. Sow seed in pots in a cold frame as soon as your order arrives. Grow in fertile, humus-rich preferably alkaline soil that does not dry out in summer, in full sun or dappled shade.
