Description:
Glossy green leaves on this evergreen shrub are flushed red in the winter then topped by bright yellow flowers in the spring. The flowers are followed by purple-blue, edible fruit that are excellent for making jam and preserves. Height 3 feet; spread 5 feet.
Notes:
Avoid transplanting the seedlings in their first year, as this may result in leaf loss. Seedlings that appear to be nothing more than sticks may yet develop leaves again.
Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.Sow fresh seed in containers in the autumn and keep outdoors. If your seed order is in the winter or spring, stratify in the cold for six weeks - either outdoors or in the refrigerator. Sow stratified seed in containers in a cold frame or other moderately sheltered location. Grow on in any moderately fertile, humus rich soil.
