For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame, preferably as soon as ripe or in spring. Use soilless seed starting mix, sow thinly and keep moist. Light is needed for germination. Keep fall-sown seedlings in a cold greenhouse or cold frame the first winter. Grow in humusy, moist but well-drained soil in part-shade with shelter from drying winds.
