For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in flats with gentle bottom heat, 15-18°C (59-64°F) in spring. Seedlings will look small and grass-like. Grow on in containers of humus rich, moist, but well drained soil in full sun. In the first 1-2 years of growth, it is best to avoid temperatures much below freezing. When plants are large enough to plant out, select a sunny position where soil is rich, moist and well drained. Winter shelter from drying winds will help maintain leaves from year to year. If temperatures are prone to dropping below -5°C (25°F) a deep dry mulch can help.
