Kirengeshoma palmata |
Native Region: Japan, Korea Zone Range: 05-09 Preferred Climate: Temperate Harvest Date: Tuesday 21 November, 2023 Seed count: 40-50
Description:
This is a beautiful perennial with much to recommend it for a shady garden. The mid to deep green leaves have an almost felt-like appearance and cling tightly to the wiry stems. Growing to 1m (3ft) in height, these plants produce their remarkable yellow bell-shaped flowers at the end of summer and into the autumn. Height to 4 feet; spread 2 feet.
Notes: There is some dispute about the status of the genus; Are there one or two species of Kirengeshoma? Are they separate species, subspecies or are they simply different forms?

Well, whatever the botanists eventually decide, this is definitely a plant to consider.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a coldframe in autumn or spring. If sowing in spring it is possible that cold stratification could help improve germination, which can be erratic. Grow in moist, acidic soil that has been enriched with leaf mould, in partial shade. Shelter from wind.
