Evergreen perennial with linear, finely toothed coarse leaves that produces slender, oblong-ovoid racemes of flowers in early autumn. The flowers are red in bud, opening to orange and fading to yellow. Height 4 feet; spread 2 feet.
The genus Kniphofia is now in the family Xanthorrhoeaceae.
