A spreading, often multi-stemmed deciduous tree with heart-shaped blue-green leaves, bronze when young. Clusters of magenta flowers are borne in spring both before and with the emerging leaves. Height and spread is 30 feet. This genus is in the family Leguminosae.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame in autumn. Grow in fertile, deep, moist but well-drained, preferably loamy soil in full sun or dappled shade. Plant in its final location when young, as older plants dislike transplanting.
