 Digitalis purpurea 'mixed' |
Native Region: Europe Zone Range: 04-08 Preferred Climate: Suited to a wide range of conditions Harvest Date: Sunday 04 August, 2019 Seed count: 150-200
Description:
This is one of the truly grand old-fashioned flowers of that almost mythical English Cottage Garden, which so many people strive to recreate. This biennial produces attractive rosettes of large leaves in the first year, with tall spikes of flowers of mixed colours up to 2m(6ft) or more in height the second year.
Notes: The plants that produced the seed for this mixed selection were grown together in VanDusen's Cottage Garden. The individual colour selections were collected from relatively isolated plants, although some variation should be expected.
The genus Digitalis is now in the family Plantaginaceae.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in spring for best results, but the seed may be scattered where it is to grow. Grow in almost any soil, except very wet or very dry. Prefers humus-rich soil in partial shade. Plants may need shelter from wind, or staking in exposed areas.
