Deschampsia cespitosa |
Native Region: Europe, Asia Zone Range: 5-9 Preferred Climate: Temperate Harvest Date: Tuesday 08 August, 2023 Seed count: 60-75
Description:
This tussock-forming evergreen grass has linear green leaves up to 24 inches long. Bears silver-tinted purple flower spiklets from early to late summer. Height 6 feet; spread 4 feet.
Notes: Grasses, long ignored as ornamentals, are now enjoying a growing popularity, especially with the increase in dry gardening techniques.
Cultivation: Sow seed in containers in a coldframe in spring or autumn. Seed may be sown in situ, but there is always the problem with birds eating the seeds before they grow. Grow in dry to damp, neutral to acidic soil in sun or partial shade. Remove previous year's growth before new growth begins in early spring. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
